The BCFCC Outreach Drive–Thru Food Ministry was born out of inspiration from a message preached by our pastor and presiding Bishop James McKnight, Jr. in 2019. The message reminded all that “We are the Church” and not the building.   The essence of the message moved the Outreach Coordinator and other members to start planning how they might reach out to the community in a unique way, by providing “Hot Meals and a Prayer.” A team started in the planning phase in late 2019, with the intention of bringing the ministry into full implementation in the year of 2020.

Unfortunately, before the plans could be fully executed, the world was faced with all the perils and restrictions of COVID -19.  This necessitated reconsideration of how the ministry could still be effective despite the challenges of the day.  After much prayer and planning it was decided that we could provide the meals and adhere to all of the necessary safety measures and guidelines by offering drive-thru services.  The idea was to provide a glimmer of hope and to let the people know we as a church are here for them.

A coordinated effort with the COGBF Regathering team, other auxiliaries, church members, community volunteers and community partners enabled the ministry to offer its first “Hot Meals and a Prayer” event on October 6, 2020.

A hot meal of shepherd’s pie was served with words of prayer and encouragement were offered to Bradford County residents who drove by. Approximately 80 people participated.  Since that first event, we have offered other drive by events such as the BFCC Fish Fry, with participation of approximately 250 people.

We provide a hot meal, smiles, encouragement and a prayer to all who attend.  We are “Reaching People and Developing lives,” one plate at a time.
